Employees Help Build Homes for Families

Three families each received the blessing of a new home, thanks to the help of several DATAMARK employees and other volunteers from around the country who recently participated in the Casas de Esperanza (Homes of Hope) homebuilding program.

Casas de Esperanza is a ministry of the El Paso- Juárez chapter of nonprofit Youth With a Mission. The organization brought together dozens of volunteers to the city of Juárez, Mexico, to assist with building three homes in four days from February 10-13.

DATAMARK volunteers from the El Paso corporate office and Juárez BPO service delivery centerAdministrative Support Manager Michelle Hayes was among several DATAMARK volunteers from the El Paso corporate office and Juárez BPO service delivery center who donated their time to help construction the homes for the families. Each home was assigned a group of 10 to 15 volunteers, led by experienced construction professionals, who plunged headlong into the hard work of framing, drywalling painting and other construction tasks.

“There was a lot of work to be done (over the four days of construction), so there was never a dull moment,” Hayes said. “We were also able to collect funds and take the families grocery shopping for food and other essentials that they needed. It was a really great time to get to know the family that we were building the house for.”

Hayes helped with the construction of a home for a single mother and her young daughter. The homes constructed for the families are small, but sturdily built and insulated to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The volunteers also outfitted each home with new refrigerators and stoves.

DATAMARK encourages its employees to serve the community through its “DATAMARK Gives Back” program. Employees who participate in the program are allowed a paid week every year to serve the charitable, non-profit organization of their choice.

The program gave Hayes an opportunity to help others in need, and to feel pride in a job well done.

“It was wonderful to see how much of a blessing it was for the families, and to see their smiles as they settled into their new home,” Hayes said.
