For about three weeks in November and December, 2015, the annual northeast monsoon drenched South India, subjecting the region to historic accumulations of rain and flooding.
Chennai, the largest city in the region with a population of more than 7 million residents, suffered the worst flooding in 100 years. The megacity, home to a thriving business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, including a DATAMARK BPO delivery center, was declared a disaster area on December 2.
The flooding shut down much of the city’s electrical, communications and transportation infrastructure. At the DATAMARK facility, operations managers coordinated with the company’s U.S. and Mexico sites to quickly react to the unfolding disaster. The teams implemented a business continuity plan to ensure that DATAMARK clients in the transportation and logistics industry continued to receive outsourced document processing services critical to their business operations.
