Apple and IBM’s enterprise mobility partnership has produced iPhone and iPad apps to help improve the speed, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of healthcare work.
Three of the four new apps are designed for nurses who work in a hospital setting. A fourth, “Home RN,” is targeted to home healthcare workers.
Here’s a brief description of each app:
Designed to run on the iPhone, the Hospital RN app gives nurses the ability to access patient records from anywhere in the facility. Information about patient requests, lab status notifications, safety alerts and tasks lists are pushed to the app, helping reduce the amount of time required for nurses to track down the information they need.
Hospital Lead runs on the iPad, and is designed for charge nurses. Tasks are delivered via push notification, allowing charge nurses to assign tasks to staff with a tap of a finger. Multiple hospital databases are accessed through a unified dashboard to help simplify complex tasks such as patient discharges.
Another iPhone app, Hospital Tech helps nurse technicians stay organized and be more effective with their time by offering a real-time view of patient requests, lab status, safety alerts and task lists.
Home RN is an iPhone app for home healthcare staff. It incorporates iPhone features, making it easy for the nurse to add photos and videos, and text and audio notes to patients’ records. The phone’s GPS function ties into the app, helping nurses find patients’ homes, local pharmacies, urgent care centers and medical laboratories. The mobile workflow is designed to eliminate paperwork headaches for nurses on-the-go.
