Many organizations still struggle to shift away from paper and fully embrace faster digital business processes, according to a new report from AIIM, the Association for Information and Image Management.

About half of all organizations surveyed by AIIM agree that removing paper from processes would be the single biggest productivity improvement, yet one in five (21%) have increased their paper consumption. These and other findings are revealed in the AIIM report “Paper Wars 2014: An Update from the Battlefield.”

The survey results were released on World Paper Free Day 2014, observed on Nov. 6. Paper Free Day is an initiative created by AIIM to encourage organizations to reduce the use of paper and improve business processes through the use of digital imaging and smarter management. Organizations that register for the event pledge to go paper free for one day. For each registration, AIIM makes a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation, a non-profit group that promotes the planting of trees

“Reducing paper use has a tangible impact on business, from improved customer service to increased productivity,” said AIIM president, John Mancini. “Business-at-the-speed-of-paper simply isn’t compatible with the modern digital enterprise and while we can’t eliminate paper altogether, we can all be much smarter about using less.”
